The Evolution of Protein
Protein is
consumed in many forms such as protein powder, protein bars and protein
chips in this day and age. However, a lot of
this wasn’t available years ago but this doesn’t mean that they didn’t consume
protein.
The most
delectable item that is loved by all (except those unlucky few who are lactose
intolerant) - cheese is where protein was discovered. As a by-product of the
cheese-making process, protein was produced. Originally, it was discarded as
waste but soon through random events people started to realise its true
potential. Soon thereafter, as time passed, the machinery used to manufacture
the by-product specially also advanced after going through multiple trial and
error phases.
Soon, it emerged
as a prospering industry where protein powder was sold to weightlifters and
athletes in the late 1900’s. Back then, the powder was still rudimentary and
had to be blended in a mixer to be used properly and did not have a likable
taste in today’s standards. Now, protein powder is available in several sizes
and easy use by simply mixing it with water. Moreover, the powder is available
in several different flavours with good taste.
In the last decade
of the 1900’s, researchers started studying whey in detail to learn more about
the way it benefits a person’s health. Over time, the research yielded great
results and simultaneously, the quality of whey also started rising.
In this
millennium, protein started taking up new roles and was used mainly for
exercising such as workout
protein bar. Various companies made multiple
kinds of protein bars in several flavours each one better than the one before
it. They spent time, efforts and money to produce such products that were
perfect for their demographic.
